MICHAEL BROWN BIOMichael Brown was born in Manhattan, NY on November 21, 1965. His primary art influences are and continue to be his parents Bob and Judy Brown, world famous puppeteers of Bob Brown Puppets. Michael grew up inside a studio full of roller skating bunnies, juggling pandas, stilt-walking chickens, fire-breathing monkeys, etc. While most families were out at the zoo or the park, Michael’s family frequented Andy Warhol’s Factory and various other beatnik hangouts. By age three, Michael was a frequent guest on PBS’ Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood. He was often featured creating crazy monster puppets while wielding huge, razor sharp scissors. In the early 70’s, the Brown family relocated to the Washington, DC area. Throughout his teenage years, Michael became interested in music as well as art. In 1983, Michael’s band United Mutation released its first record on Dischord Records. For the next couple of years, Michael played in many diverse DC bands. Years of touring the country wore thin, so Michael shifted his interests back to art by attending the four year program at the prestigious Corcoran College of Art & Design in Washington,DC., where he graduated in 1991 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. Michael’s art has been influenced by: 30’s-40’s cartoons, 70’s pop culture, American and Mexican folk art, comic book art, tattoo flash, sideshow/carnival culture, horror/monster movies and Japanime. Using these different influences, Michael has created thousands of pieces such as paintings, sculptures dioramas and furniture. His art collectors include; COOP, Billy F. Gibbons of ZZ Top, Twiggy Ramirez of Marilyn Manson, Jello Biafra, Tera Patrick, H.R. Giger, and Joe Coleman. These days, Michael is a full-time artist living with his wife web designer Liz Carroll, isolated from the masses in rural Virginia. |
